KARACHI, Feb 20: Two political workers were killed late on Wednesday night in separate parts of the city.

A worker of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) was shot dead by unknown attackers in Model Colony.

Initial reports said Arshad Ali, 23, was attacked near his house in Street No 27. Tension gripped the locality following the incident.

The police said that the body was being shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The victim was stated to be a brother of area councillor, Liaquat Ali.

Meanwhile, a Bengali-speaking man was stabbed to death in Machchar Colony in the limits of Docks police.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital where sources said the victim received multiple stab wounds in his abdomen.

The police said the man was fatally wounded by three unknown men near Raja Chowk.

Identified as Babul, 21, the victim was stated to be a supporter of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Vehicles pelted

Traffic came to a halt when charged political workers pelted stones on vehicles and a nearby hospital amid intense firing in Defence area on Wednesday, as they were returning from a protest rally to denounce their leader’s defeat in the general election allegedly by rigging.

Eyewitnesses said the area remained tense and businesses were closed right after the sunset when dozens of youths got off their vehicles at main Kala Pul and started throwing stones on vehicles and the health facility along the main Korangi Road.

An eyewitness said the political workers were chanting anti-Muttahida Qaumi Movement slogans accusing it of rigging the elections for the PS-114 seat.
