Sindh collects record revenue in January

KARACHI, Feb 8: The Sindh government collected record revenue of Rs987.27 million during January, taking total recovery of taxes and levies during first seven months (July-January) of the fiscal year 2007-08 to Rs5.54 billion, exceeding the proportionate target of Rs5.53 billion.

In addition to this collection, the taxpayers deposited Rs756 million in the form of bank guarantees because of pending litigation which raised the total collection to Rs6.29 billion, a press release of the department said on Friday.

Provincial caretaker Minister of Excise and Taxation Dr Abdul Karim Mehar was given a briefing on the performance of the department. For the current fiscal year, the government has set a target of Rs9.48 billion.
