SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 4: Five bogies of a goods train derailed near Muridke on Monday afternoon as a result of which railway traffic on Lahore-Rawalpindi section remained suspended for around six hours.
The Rawalpindi-bound train derailed at around 2pm owing to a mechanical fault in sleepers. The traffic resumed at around 8pm and the railway authorities have ordered an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident.
TORCHED: A gang of land grabbers allegedly torched the house of a widow after a failed bid to dispossess her in Nanodogar locality in Sharqpur police precincts.
Yousaf Aslam Qaiser and his accomplices stormed into the house of Bushra Bibi and tried to dislodge her. As they started ransacking the widow’s belongings, she and neighbours resisted on which the grabbers set the house ablaze and fled.
The Sharaqpur police are investigating.
PIPELINE: A gas pipeline between Lahore and Gujranwala exploded owing to mechanical fault near Vandiala Dyal Shah locality on GT Road causing huge panic among the locals.
The SNGPL officials were carrying out repair of the pipeline near Imamia Colony in Ferozewala when suddenly it burst due to a mechanical fault at around 3pm and caught fire. However, no causality was reported.
The staffers got the main supply disconnected and later carried out a thorough repair, which took around three hour. The gas supply was restored at around 7pm.
