KARACHI, Jan 31: Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has expressed concern over prevalent power and gas crisis which are badly affecting production activities at the tanneries.

In a statement on Thursday, PTA chairman S M Naseem said that tanners could not meet their export orders owing to shortage of gas and long power breakdowns.

“Tanners have built up a large stock of hides and skins after this Eidul Azha, but are now facing difficulties in preserving them because of less working hours,” he added.

He said the leather and made-ups exports had started registering increase during the first half the current fiscal year, but under the present dismal conditions this trend could not sustained as many of association members were facing cancellation of export orders.
