ISLAMABAD, Jan 25: Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro has reiterated government’s resolve to continue with the economic reforms agenda to attract investment in various sectors.
Talking to a delegation of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Friday at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Mr Soomro said that the decisions and policies of the government would have a long-term impact on all spheres of national life.
About load-shedding, he said due to high economic growth, coupled with improvement in the living standards of the people, the demand for energy had increased manifold. He, however, said that the government was taking measures to meet the energy demand through installation of new power generating units with the help of private sector, improving efficiency of the existing ones and promoting energy efficient appliances.
Regarding recent atta crisis in the country, he said that the government was working on a two-pronged strategy to keep prices of essential commodities under control. On the one hand, it was working to ensure supply of these items in sufficient quantities, and on the other, administrative steps were being taken to check hoarding and undue profiteering, he said.
About the poultry industry, he said that the government had already given concessions by reducing duty on frozen poultry.
He, however, asked the poultry industry to modernise this sector in accordance with the best international practices.
