Indian Firing continues

SIALKOT, April 7: The Chenab Rangers thwarted two more major Indian attempts to fence near Jammu and Saamba sectors of the Sialkot working boundary early Sunday morning, causing a heavy defensive loss to the enemy.

Sources said the Indian troops continued firing on villages in Chhumb Joriyaan (Gujrat), Bajwat, Charwa, Harpal, Chaprar, Sucheetgarh, Akhnoor, Jammu, Saamba and Shakargarh-Narowal sectors of the working boundary, badly disrupting the sowing of seasonal crops.

No casualty has yet been reported.

LAID TO REST: Prominent Urdu novelist Ghulamul Saqlain Naqvi was laid to rest in his native graveyard at Bharath village here on Sunday.

A large number of people belonging to all walks of life attended his funeral prayers.

RAIN: Sialkot and Narowal districts on Sunday received heavy showers which turned the weather pleasant.

A great rush of people was witnessed in parks and other picnic spots after the rain.

The local Met office has forecast more rain during the next 24 hours in both Sialkot and Narowal districts and the catchment areas of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the growers community has welcomed the rain terming it conducive to wheat and other seasonal crops.

REFERENDUM: Scores of aspirants for the upcoming elections have joined hands with the local government to launch a referendum campaign.

Official sources said the district government had assigned Nazims and their deputies to canvass for the public liaison campaign.

Some local political pundits claim leaders and workers of the PML-N, PPP and other political parties are disappointed while the preliminary delimitation of the constituencies by the Election Commission of Pakistan has added fuel to fire.

Having despaired of the situation, they say the politicians have joined hands with the government to survive in politics.

Meanwhile, there are many other hoping for a relaxation in the graduation condition as they believe the government will change it to FA.

They allege political manoeuvering has been going underground by Nazims and Naib Nazims as they offer tickets to their favourites.

While some proposed candidates are seen busy getting the political support of the district governments in Sialkot and Narowal, the new comers believe the government candidates will easily be elected.

Some experts allege district Nazim Mian Naeem Javed is nominating the candidates of his biradari for all the seats of national and provincial assemblies in the district.

When contacted, the Nazim was not available for his comments.
