GUJRANWALA, Jan 16: A joint team of Rangers and the district administration arrested three flour dealers on different charges here on Wednesday.
The raiding party, led by Rangers monitoring team in charge Lt-Col Zubair, raided a market and arrested dealer Haji Asif for selling a 20kg flour bag for Rs320 instead of Rs285 while Sheikh Amir and Asadullah for weighing less.
A judicial magistrate also imposed a fine of Rs30,000 to the former and Rs10,000 each to the latter two and sent them to the central jail for a week.
SUMMONED: District returning officer Nazir Ahmad Ganjana on Wednesday ordered SHOs of Kamoki, Wahando and Ferozewala to appear before court on Thursday (today) for facilitating a PML-Q candidate’s electioneering.
The petition was filed against the SHOs by the PPP aspirant and party district president Abdullah Virk.
The judge also reissued notice of appearance in the court on Thursday to DIG Khadim Hussain Bhatti, who was summoned by the DRO on a petition filed by PML-N aspirant Rana Nazir Ahmed for NA-99.
HANGED: A condemned prisoner was hanged in a jail here on Wednesday while the body was handed over to his heirs.
According to the prosecution, convict Zakaullah of Ahmad Nagar had killed Tanvir Irshad of Kulair Auncha village for barring him from teasing women in 1998.
The district and sessions judge had handed him down the death sentence while the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court upheld the decision. The president also rejected his clemency appeal.
WARRANTS: A local Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants against five accused involved in murder case of half-a-dozen people in Narowal and directed the police to arrest them and produce them before court on next hearing.
Reports said that accused Mubasher Butt, Mudassar Butt, Hafiz Mushtaq Butt, Islam and Mustafa alias Murtaza had killed six people over a property dispute about a month back.
