Sabir wins cycle race

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25: Sabir Hussain of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) won the Champion of Hills cycle race on Tuesday.

Sabir covered the 75km distance from the Army Sports Stadium, Rawalpindi, to the Merhaba Hotel in Murree in two hours, twenty-eight minutes and forty-five seconds.

Nisar Ahmad of Balochistan finished second, clocking two hours twenty-nine minutes, and seven seconds while Murad Ali of SSGC stood third.

While lauding the efforts of the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) for holding the event, President, Pakistan Olympic Association and Chairman of the Pakistan Sports Trust Lt. General (retd) Syed Arif Hassan, the chief guest at the opening ceremony, announced cash prizes of Rs1,40,000 (70,000 each from the PCF and the Pakistan Sports Trust) for the winners.

Sardar Sajid, DDO, Murree, the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony, gave away the trophies and cash prizes.

Some 55 cyclists from all the affiliated units of the PCF, including SSGC, Balochistan, Wapda, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Railways, Punjab, Sindh, NWFP and Fata, participated in the national-level event, organised in conjunction with the birth anniversary celebrations of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.—Agencies
