KARACHI, Oct 22: Over 100 handicapped children belonging to Al Shifa and Ida Rieu School and College for the Deaf and Blind were entertained at a seaside restaurant on Monday.
The children, many of whom are visually impaired, while others suffer other forms of handicap, enjoyed songs and music along with sumptuous food during their couple-of-hours-long stay at the restaurant under the “Food for Special Children” programme.
Noted artist and social worker, Jimmy Engineer, who had organized the function for the children said that handicapped children had every right to enjoy life.
He also said that he wanted around 25 to 30 elite restaurants to accommodate around 100 special children at least once a month. This way, around 2,500 to 3,000 handicapped children can be entertained at elite restaurants every month.
He said that stage artiste Farzana Naz had agreed to perform at all such programmes as a gesture of goodwill towards the handicapped. Ms Naz and other singers presented many songs on Monday as well.
He said that he, along with close cooperation of the Pakistan Hotels Association, was also in the process of organizing a big event for around 5,000 handicapped children at an amusement park, such as the one organized a few days back, so that less- privileged children could also enjoy such facilities.
