DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Nov 26: Former Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman and seven other candidates on Monday filed nomination papers for the National Assembly seat (NA-24) of Dera Ismail Khan.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman has also filed papers for NA-25, Tank, as a covering candidate for his younger brother and former MNA Maulana Attaur Rehman.

Earlier, he had filed papers for NA-26, Bannu. Former Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani would be his covering candidate on the seat.

The other candidates for NA-24, Dera Ismail Khan, are: Faisal Karim Kundi of the PPP, Sardar Umar Farooq Khan Miankhel, former advocate-general Chaudhry Farooq, Jamaat-i-Islami’s Zahid Mohibullah, former MPA Sardar Israrullah Khan Gandapur and former provincial minister Sardar Sanaullah Khan Miankhel.

Besides Maulana Fazl, other candidates who filed papers from Bannu NA-26 are: Hameed Ali Shah of the PkMAP, former MNA Malik Nasir Khan, Col (retd) Inamullah Khan Wazir, Roshan Khan of the MQM and Abdul Hafeez (independent).

Forty-five candidates, including Asfandyar Wali Khan of the ANP, filed their papers for two national assembly and six provincial assembly seats of Swabi.

Mr Asfandyar filed nomination papers for NA-12, Swabi-1.

Usman Khan Tarakai, uncle of district nazim Shahram Khan Tarakai, former Jamaat-i-Islami MNA Usman Khan, Mohammad Farooq of the PPP and Iftikhar Ahmad Khan of the PNL (N) also filed their nomination papers from the same constituency.

Former NWFP education minister Maulana Fazal Ali filed nomination papers for NA-13 and PF-35, Swabi-V. Amir Nawaz Khan of the JI, Pervez Khan of the ANP and Sajjad Khan, a key leader of the PML (Q) also filed their nomination papers for NA-13.

Dr Mohammad Salim of the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz filed his nomination papers for PF-31, Swabi-1 and Mushtaq Ahmad, provincial Naib Amir of the JI filed papers for PF-32, Swabi-11.

Former MPAs, Amir Rehman and Mukhtiar Khan, also filed nomination papers for PF-32 and PF-33, respectively.

Liaqat Ahmad Khan of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry filed nomination papers for PF-35, Swabi-V.

Former Lakki District Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan and his younger brother Anwar Saifullah Khan were among other candidates who submitted their nomination papers with the returning officer for NA-27 and PF-75, respectively. Mr Humayun and Mr Anwar Saifullah have also filed their nominations as covering candidates for eath other.

According to reports, Humayun Saifullah Khan resigned from the post of district nazim in order to contest elections for the only national assembly seat in Lakki Marwat.

Other candidates who filed nomination papers for NA-27 are: Maulana Amanullah Khan of JUI (F), Pir Dr Khalid Raza Zakori, Maulana Syed Yousaf Shah of the JUI (S), Haji Hamidullah Khan of the ANP, Zafrullah Khan, Munawar Khan, Samiullah and Maulana Abdul Majid of the Haji Kabir group, Prof Sher Ghulam of the JI, Akbar Jan Khan Marwat and Ghulam-ud-Din Jabukhel (independent) and a primary schoolteacher Faizullah Khan.

For PF-74 (Lakki Marwat-I) Zafrullah Khan Marwat, Serai Naurang Anwar Hayat Khan, Ihsanullah Khan of PPP, Sadrud Din of ANP, Mohammad Riaz Marwat and Amin Jan Khan filed their nomination papers.

Other candidates for PF-75 (Lakki Marwat-II) are: Syed Hasan Raza Shah, Imran Khan Khawjakhel of the ANP, Zafrullah Khan of the JUI-F and an independent candidate Ghulam-ud-Din Jabukhel.

Provincial general secretary of the PML (N) and ex-MPA Anwar Kamal Khan Marwat, his covering candidate Aurangzeb Khan, former district naib nazim Arifullah Khan Meenakhel, Nazim Lakki city-I Ishfaq Ahmad Khan Meenakhel of the JUI-F, Wahid Aslam Khan Begukhel, Malik Haji Hamidullah Khan of the ANP and Maulana Habibullah Haqqani of the JUI-S submitted their nomination papers.

Over 60 candidates from all the mainstream political and religious partiers filed their nomination papers for two national and six provincial assemblies’ seats of the Mansehra district.

Those who filed papers from NA-20 Mansehra 1 are: Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah and his brother Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah of the PPP, former DG of the Anti-Narcotic Forces, Salahuddin Tirmizi of the PML (N), former provincial minister Syed Akhtar Hussein Shah of the PPP-S and ex senator Syed Hidaitullah Shah and Syed Ghulam Nabi Shah of the JUI-F.

From NA-21 Mansehra-2, Zar Gul Khan and his brother Zarin Gul Khan of the PML (Q), Habibur Rehman Tanoli of the PPP (S), Shaheen Zameer of the PPP and Shujah Salam Khan, an independent candidate filed their nominations.

From PF-53 Mansehra 1, Tariq Khan Swati of the PML (Q), Babar Salem Swati of the PML (N), Malik Sohrab of the PPP, Dr Tariq Shirazi of the JI and Shujah Salam Khan and Sheryar Khan (independent) filed nominations. From PF-54 Mansehra 2, Syed Ahmed Hussein Shah and his brother Iftikhar Hussain Shah of the PPP, Main Ziaur Rehman and Asif Akbar Swati of the PPP, Haji Sajjad Piracha of the PML-N and Raja Ashfaq (independent) filed paper.

For PF-55 Mansehra 3, Mufti Kafaitullah of the JUI (F), Maulana Umer, Raja Ishfaq (independent), Sajad Ahmad Paracha (PML N) and Asif Akber Khan Swati the PPP submitted papers.

For PF-56 Mansehra 4, Haq Nawaz Khan of the PPP, Syed Abdul Bar Shirazi of the JI, Maulana Nasir Mehmood of the JUI (F), Syed Riaz Hussain Shah of the PPP-S and Sardar Waqarul Mulk as independent candidate and Shazada Gustasif Khan filed papers.

For PF-57 Mansehra 5, Habibur Rehman Tanoli and his daughter Ghazala Habib of the PPP-S, Sakhi Mohammad Tanoli of the PML (Q), Umer Khitab Tanoli of the PML (N), Nawabzada Farooq Khan Tanoli and Iftikhar Ahmed Tanoli Advocate (independent) submitted their papers.

From PF-58 Mansehra 6, Zarin Gul and his brother Zar Gul Khan of the PML (Q) and Namruz Khan of the ANP filed their papers.
