KARACHI, Nov 6: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has decided to launch a countrywide movement against the imposition of state of emergency and curbs on media freedom.

At an emergency meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday, the PFUJ gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to withdraw the two ordinances curbing the freedom of the media, issued under the Provisional Constitutional Order, and to restore transmission of private television channels.

A black day will be observed across the country on Friday if the demands are not met.

The meeting also decided that journalists would boycott the National Assembly session on Wednesday.
