RAWALPINDI, Nov 6: The legal consultant for Benazir Bhutto’s security adviser Rehman Malik is reported to have urged the government to withdraw its request made to Interpol for issuing ‘red notices’ against him.

In a letter to Interior Ministry Secretary Syed Kamal Shah, Advocate Farooq H. Naek said that the government sent the request to Interpol after Mr Malik had failed to appear in accountability courts in the country.

The courts convicted Mr Malik in absentia under section 31-A of the NAB Ordinance and issued his arrest warrants.

Mr Naek told Dawn that he had also made a request to the Interpol to withdraw ‘red notices’ issued against PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto as the case which formed the basis of the request had been decided by the court in her favour.
