KARACHI, March 24: The Sindh Democratic Alliance (SDA) has opposed the imposition of a 15 per cent General Sales Tax on medicines as it would increase the prices of drugs manifold.
SDA leader Imtiaz Shaikh, in a statement, said the GST, according to an estimate, would generate an additional revenue of Rs5 billion to the exchequer.
But, he said, the government could earn more revenue, without taxing the people who were already overburdened by so many taxes, by plugging loopholes.
