KARACHI, Oct 20: The management of the KaraFilm Festival has postponed the event, scheduled to begin on November 15 as a “mark of respect” for the over 130 people who lost their lives in an act of “brutal terrorism” in Karachi on Oct 18, said an official of the organisation.
According to a spokesperson, the rescheduled dates will be announced after consultation with all those involved and once the political and security situation stabilizes. “The KaraFilm Society also wishes to reiterate that it stands firmly for the principles of unhindered debate, creativity and tolerance and against the use of force and threats of violence to suppress opinions and dissent,” said an official statement.
It said that in a global environment in which no place in the world was free from the threat of wanton acts of terrorism, it was also mindful of its duty to resist in Pakistan the attempts by terrorism’s practitioners to shut down avenues of cultural, political and social expression.
