LARKANA, Oct 11: The Larkana circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday ordered police to register an FIR against the SHO of Rustam police station of Shikarpur and stopped his posting till the court decided a case accusing him of keeping one Tarique Ali Arain in illegal detention.
The court ordered the detainee freed on personal bond and asked the DPO of Shikarpur to hold an inquiry into the case filed against the SHO by the detainee’s father, Mohammed Ali Arain, a high school teacher.
Mr Mohammad Ali told the court on Wednesday that the SHO of Rustam police station arrested his elder son Tariq Ali after he filed a petition with the district and sessions judge of Shikarpur against illegal detention of his father and younger brother.
The petition was followed by raid on the police station by a court official who found the father and son detained there and the sessions judge ordered registration of FIR against the SHO who arrested him on Oct 8 and kept him in illegal confinement till Oct 10, the petitioner said.
The SHO had arrested him and his son Arif Ali, a student of class IX, from their house on Sept 25 under a case of theft lodged by his brother Abdul Ghaffar, he said.
He then took them to police station where he subjected them to severe torture and demanded Rs50,000 for their release. He threatened to keep torturing them if they did not arrange the money, the petitioner said.
He (SHO) finally agreed to get Rs10,000 through Mohammed Shafi who assured to pay the amount.
He approached the high court after the SHO arrested his elder son, he said.
Mr Justice Amir Hani Muslim summoned the DPO of Shikarpur and the SHO Ghulam Serwar Deho who fled away when the court called him in. The court ordered the DPO to produce the detainee who later recorded his statement.
