LAHORE, Oct 6: An accountability court has fixed October 13 for submission of the defence evidence by Punjab’s former education minister Riaz Fatiyana who is accused of illegally acquiring a plot.

The former minister informed the court on Saturday that he would not submit witnesses in defence. He said he would submit documentary evidence in his support.

Mr Fatiyana said that he had not committed any illegality. He had said in his defence statement that other politicians, bureaucrats and in some cases former presidents had acquired the plots for residential purposes and later sold the same at high prices. He said that he did not do any such thing.

The former minister had also submitted a list of the government functionaries against whom he said complaints of similar nature were filed but a case has yet to see the light of the day.

The court had sought a report from the relevant authorities.

Another accountability court fixed October 9 for defence evidence in a case against Pakistan Medical Cooperative Housing Society’s former president Dr Azhar Ata Malik.

Dr Ata is accused of misappropriation of the society’s membership fees. In this regard over Rs50 are million attributed to him after adding interest.

The accused submitted a list of 288 witnesses in the court during the day who were summoned on the next date of hearing.

An accountability court deferred the framing of charge against Bhakkar’s former assistant food director.

Accused Ijaz Shahani requested for an adjournment on the plea that he had filed an application for bargaining.

He is accused of acquiring assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
