KARACHI, Oct 8: Residents of at least three apartment buildings in Lyari are reportedly receiving contaminated water for more than three months and despite lodging complaints with the relevant authorities no action has been taken so far.

The affected apartment buildings located on Lyari’s D. D. Chaudhry Road include Haji Attu Building, Baitul Hashim and Zeeshan Arcade.

The residents had sent a letter to City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, who is also the chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), stating that the KWSB had started replacement of a waterline after sewage had found its way into it near Durrani Hotel in June.

However, since the replacement work continued without the supervision of a qualified engineer, sewage mixed water was still coming in to their taps and as such a huge amount of money spent on this project went down the drain due to the negligence on the part of KWSB’s concerned engineers, they added.

They deplored that although the residents of the affected buildings had brought the lingering issue of contaminated water into the notice of all the KWSB officials, none of them had so far bothered to take measures for the provision of clean water to the residents of the affected buildings even during Ramazan.

They urged the city nazim to direct the officials concerned to ensure that the residents were supplied clean water by Eidul Fitr.

Residents of Soldier Bazaar No 1 and 2 have been facing acute water shortage for the last two months owing to the alleged tampering of valve operation by the KWSB concerned staff.

People residing in various apartment buildings, situated on both sides of Soldier Bazaar No 1 and 2 complained that for the last two months they were being supplied water for just an hour instead of the entire day.

Residents of Saa’dat Manzil situated opposite Irfan School in Soldier Bazaar No 1, deplored that although acute water shortage in their locality had been persisting for the last two months, the concerned officials of the KWSB had not yet taken measures to restore the normal supply.
