HYDERABAD, Oct 5: The South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAP) will launch a campaign all over Sindh for rights of haris and agricultural reforms with the ‘peasants demand day’ being observed on 16th of this month, said the provincial coordinator of the NGO, Zulfiqar Shah, and other office-bearers.

They told this to journalists on Thursday at the dialogue on “Movement for the Rights of Peasants”. They said advisory dialogues will be held with leaders of civil society in Badin, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Matiari, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot on “Harap Act”.

Alliances will be formed at district level after which Harap Alliance will be constituted at provincial level, they said and added that their organisation intends to launch a consistent struggle for agricultural reforms and amendments in the Harap Act.

In furtherance of this objective, they said, a big rally will be taken out in Hyderabad on 29th and a dialogue in Karachi on 23rd on agricultural reforms and amendments in the Harap Act.

They said noted jurists, political leaders, representatives of civil society and media personnel will be invited to share their views in the dialogue.

They said in the first week of November and December, demonstrations and rallies will be held in Sukkur and Karachi, respectively. They said thousands of haris from all over Sindh will participate in these rallies.

They said finally a memorandum will be presented to all political parties and they will be requested to include the agenda of agricultural reforms and hari protection law in their manifesto.

They said 90 groups of haris and workers had been formed with the cooperation of other NGOs in Jacobabad, Ghotki, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar and Matiari.

About 35 women belonging to minorities and hari and worker organisations had been included in these groups along with the establishment of 10 district resource centres to create awareness among haris and workers, they said.

At the end of this month, 10000 printed copies of “Harap Act” will be distributed among haris they said and added pamphlets about the rights of haris, workers, minorities, women and children will also be distributed.

dengue virus: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has stressed upon the Health Department to formulate and put into action programme for the prevention of dengue fever.

He was presiding over a meeting at his Secretariat on Thursday, on ways and means to fight dengue fever.

Kanwar Naveed Jamil said to provide health cover to people was top priority of the district government and added no laxity in this regard will be tolerated.

He said there were reports of attack by dengue virus in some places and keeping in view the last year’s experiences, arrangements should be made before time to prevent it from spreading.

He directed immediate anti-mosquitoes spray under the supervision of senior doctors in all four talukas of Hyderabad, simultaneously.

Places accumulated with water should be sprayed along with the government and private hospitals and schools he said and directed purchase of sprayers wherever there was a shortage of it. Directives to distribute posters and handbills among the public were also given by him.

The nazim said people can also be educated about dengue virus through cable television.
