Unbeaten Raees clinch title

KARACHI. March 18: Raees won the weekly Duplicate Bridge contest at Aslam Bridge Hall, with the top score of 105, Sunday. Raees comprising Raees Ahmed, Saleem Ahmed, Pervaiz Mirza and Fizza Adamji made their way to the top of the ladder by winning all the five matches.

Raees first faced Mahmood and edged them out 21-19, Chandna were their next victim losing 25-3. In the third they faced Candyland, which team till then had collected 50 out of 50, but they could not resist Raees and went down fighting 19-11.

The EFU saw them in the fourth round and the Printers met them in the last round that Raees won 24-6 and 16-14 respectively.

Candyland collected maximum in two matches from Anis and the Pinter, but lost next two matches to Raees 11-19 and Shipyard 15-15, winning last match 18-12 from Attackers.

They occupied second berth with 94 V.P. Muhammed Ismail, Hamid, Khalid Mohiuddin, Hasan Askari and Ziaullah Baig played for Candyland.

Ghufran Ashraf & Shahab’s team Shipyard collected 92 V.P. for the third place winning all the five matches beating Tariq 16-14, Abedies 16-14, Friends 23-7, Candyland 15-15 and EFU 22-8.

Earlier, in the Pair event 39 pairs were placed in two houses. Lutufullah and Khalid Zaki showing marked improvement in their approach to bidding and table play topped in the senior’s section with an excellent score of 62 percent followed by the established pairs of Zia - Hamid 57 and Nasir Reza- Kahliq 56 percent.

In the other house Anwer Kidwai - Mairaj Kidwai topped with 58. 73 percent exhibiting their fine approach. Qamar Puri - A Memon scored 57.74 and Shafaat Hussain - Shameem Haider occupied second and third berths.—PPI
