KARACHI, Sept 20: Abdul Majeed, father of deceased groom Mohammad Azeem, on Thursday filed an application in the court of district and sessions judge, Central, Abdul Maalik, for the transfer of the NED couple death case to another zone for investigation.

The district and sessions judge transferred the application to the additional district and sessions judge-4, Gulshan Ara Chandio, for further proceedings.

Mr Majeed told Dawn that he had no confidence in the investigation team which, he said, was protecting the accused and harassing the victim’s family.

He alleged that the investigation officer was biased and was trying to hush up the investigation, adding that instead of arresting the actual culprits the police had made his and his family members’ lives miserable.

Advocate Shaikh Javaid Mir, who submitted the application under Section 22-A of CrPC on behalf of Abdul Majeed, told Dawn that his client was being extremely harassed by the police.

He said the investigation of such a case usually required 17 days, but it was not produced to the court even in one and a half months which, he said, exposed the mala-fide intentions of the DIG concerned and other police officials.

H said the police officials were prolonging the investigation for reasons best known to themselves and appearing on television channels to make false claims about the investigation of the case.

Mohammad Azeem Shaikh and his bride Beenish were found dead in mysterious circumstances the next morning after their wedding in their North Nazimabad apartment on Aug 11, 2007.
