MIRPURKHAS, March 17: The managements of Al-Abbas Sugar Mill and Mirpur Sugar Mill owe a huge amount to sugarcane growers for the last one month while sugar mills are bound to make payment to growers in a week of sugarcane delivery under the Sugarcane Act.

This was complained by the office-bearers of some growers’ associations while talking to newsmen here on Sunday.

Imtiaz Panhwar, Naveed Mehar, Mohammad Khan Laghari and others alleged that hundreds of growers had been denied of payment of sugarcane which they had supplied to the mills.

They said that millions of rupees had been stuck up with the sugar mills.

They deplored that the managements of both the sugar mills misbehaved with growers when they demanded their dues.

They said that the cane commissioner and other authorities were not taking action against the defaulter sugar mills.

LOOTED: A Mirpurkhas bound coach was looted by four bandits near Kakepota village on Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas road on Saturday night.

Reports said that the bandits, travelling as passengers, held the passengers hostage at gunpoint, looted gold ornaments, cash, wrist watches and fled in the banana fields.
