RAWALPINDI, March 17: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) has expressed resentment over the failure of the district government to grant new payscales to contractual lecturers of eight women degree colleges.

More than 100 women lecturers of the eight degree colleges have been denied the new scales that were recently announced by the chief executive.

The PPLA president, Ilyas Qureshi, said the lecturers concerned were legally entitled to the increase in salaries announced by the chief executive, but, alleged that the district education officials were not cooperating in solving their problems. They want to harass these lecturers so that their favourites are appointed, he said.

The affected lecturers, headed by the PPLA president, held a meeting with the district Naib Nazim, Raja Javed Akhlas, and apprised him of their problems.

Mr Qureshi told him that all contractual employees in other government departments had been given the increase, but, the lecturers of the eight colleges were the only ones who had been deprived of it so far.
