KARACHI, March 17: Work on 60 development projects in the city will begin soon at an estimated cost of Rs200 million, sources said.
These projects, to be carried out under the Khushhal Pakistan Programmes Phase-III, had already been okayed by President Pervez Musharraf at a meeting held during his recent visit to the city.
The projects were initially scheduled to begin in Jan, but work on them could not take off due to difference of opinion that had cropped between Town Nazims and KPP officials over some of these projects, the sources added.
However, after resolution of such minor differences over the projects, the projects were put up for the perusal of the president at the meeting, the sources said, adding the president while giving green signal for the projects had asked the authorities concerned to ensure their completion on the scheduled dates.
The majority of the projects, the sources said, would be completed by June 30, as tenders for 56 out of 60 projects had already been floated.
The projects, costing about Rs200 million, pertains to construction and improvement of roads and streets, laying and improvement of drainage and sewer systems, rehabilitation of pipelines, provision of sewerage facilities, reconstruction of broken manholes, cleaning of trunk sewers, electrification in some union councils, etc.
Details of the projects, belonging to different Towns, are as follows along with their estimated cost.
BALDIA: Improvement of Swat Colony Road, including stormwater drain from Ghousia Road to Hub river road (Rs1.6 million); rehabilitation of concerned water lines (Rs1.2m); Improvement of Jungle School Road i/c drain up to Sector-8 in UC-112 Baldia Town (Rs4.6m) and rehabilitation of concerned pipelines (Rs 0.4m); Improvement of road i/c CC Drain from 5-B Road to Tipu Sultan Road in UC-6 (Rs2.4m) and rehabilitation of concerned pipelines (Rs0.4m).
BIN QASIM: Construction of metalled road No 6 of Cattle Colony, including construction of open nullah and culverts (Rs11.2m); providing and laying of a 20-inch dia FC Sewer main from Quaidabad Medical Centre to Sheesh Mahal hotel, Khuldabad, and 12” near Masjid-i-Al-Farooq Ghauri ground (Rs0.75m).
GADAP: Construction of road from Gadap road to Jaffary Farm, UC-3 (Rs8.5m).
GULBERG: Improvement of road in Block No 22, Plot No L-6-B to LA-11 and Block No 21 & T-4 to LA11 (Rs2.8m); repairing of road in Asif Nagar, Block No 9 (Rs1.2m); improvement of road in Bhingoria Goth, Block-8 (Rs2.6m).
One of the most important project being carried out in Gulberg Town pertains to provision and laying of 28-inch dia Fibre Cement Trunk Sewer from Liquatabad No 10 roundabout to Karimabad roundabout at an estimated cost of Rs6.03m.
GULSHAN: Improvement of 60-foot wide roads in Block 13-A, 13-B and 13-C (Rs11.8m).
JAMSHED: Carpeting of Jamshed Road and adjoining areas/ main roads (Rs2.08m); repairing of road along Tipu Sultan Road Block 7/8 (Rs3.2m); improvement of balance portion of Bahadur Yar Jung Road (Rs2.2m).
KEAMARI: Electrification of Ramazan and Jerk Goth UC-8 (Rs1m); provision of electrification of Yunusabad UC-4 (Rs0.5m); improvement of Mohammedi Road from Caltex petrol pump to Al-Shafa Clinic UC-7 (Rs2.1m); construction of RCC pipe drain in Block-1 Sikandarabad-UC-2 (Rs0.95m); laying of RCC pipe drain and improvement of streets in Sultanabad Block-A UC-2 (Rs1.1m) and construction of nullah in Madni Colony, Turkey Village up to sea, UC-6 Mauripur (Rs2.2m); construction of main drain in Bhit Island UC-4 (Rs1m) and providing and laying or RCC pipe drain in Yunusabad and Kaka Village UC No 4 (Rs1.1m).
KORANGI: Construction of road from 12000 Road to Graveyard Chakra Goth (Rs1.4m); repair of 11000 Road from 8000 Road to 16000 Road Korangi Town (Rs4.5m); construction of 7000 Road from 10000 Road to 12000 Road Korangi Town (Rs3m); bypass of sewerage system from stormwater drains by laying sewerage line of 14-inch dia from house G-904 to G-865 UC-5 (Rs0.6m) and bypass sewerage system from stormwater drains from C-Area to D-Area UC-9 (Rs0.9m).
LANDHI : Cleaning of 42, 36, 30 and 24 inch dia lower Landhi Main Trunk Sewer from Korangi No 1, 12000 Road to 36/B at 362 Road Landhi (Rs4.5m) and improvement of Landhi Town’s sewerage system (Rs7.7m).
LIAQUATABAD: Rehabilitation of trunk sewer from Sindhi Hotel to Chaman Cinema Bridge (Orangi nullah) Liaquatabad Town (Rs4.4m); improvement of roads in the area of UC-10, Nazimabad-1 (Rs2.6m); improvement of roads in UC-11, Abbasi Shaheed (Rs4m) and improvement of pipe drain system in UC-11 (Rs0.49m).
LYARI: Provision of FC sewer pipeline for bypassing sewerage system in Baloch Para towards Atmaram Road for remaining work of either side Baloch Para Streets Shah Waliullah Road (Rs1.3m); provision of sewerage facility on Mirza Adam Khan Road-Shah Murad Road, Liaquat Colony including rehabilitation of old and wornout sewerage pipelines of Eidgah Lane’s streets (Rs7.6m); 12 and 14 inches dia FC sewer pipe to bypass Mehboob Masjid and open drain Chachi Street to Bakra Piri pumping station (Rs1m).
MALIR: Reconstruction of road and pipe drain from Khokhrapar-1 through KDA Turning up to the Malir river (Rs8.8m) and bypass of sewerage system from stormwater drains and diversion of sewerage load of Blocks C, G, H and Liaquat Market Area by lying a fibre cement pipe from overloaded 18-inch dia main sewer to existing 24-inch dia sub-trunk sewer (Rs2.7m).
NORTH KARACHI: Provision of 12 and 14-inch dia KDA’s missing sewer for bypassing sewerage line from stormwater drain for improving sewerage system of sectors 11-D, 11-J and North Karachi (Rs3.6m); laying of 12-inch dia KDA’s missing sewer for providing sewerage system to the residential area of North Karachi’s Sector 5-B (Rs2m); reconstruction of damaged manholes and fixing of ring slab and covers on broken manholes (Rs6.9m).
NORTH NAZIMABAD: Laying of a 36-inch dia sewer in North Nazimabad to bypass surplus load from the existing sewer from Ziauddin Hospital to Block-C, KDA Chowrangi (Rs6.5m) and reconstruction of collapsed manholes (Rs2.6m).
ORANGI: Improvement of 12/L main road (Rs6.3m) and construction of road on Sharah-i-Qaddafi from Sohni Chowk to Gulshan-i-Bihar, Phase-I (Rs5.5m)
SHAH FAISAL: Bypass of Malir trunk sewer from Chakori nullah and disposal into the Malir river (Rs8.8m); cleaning of sewerage line, completely restoring original silt free diameter of the existing 33-inch dia trunk sewer from Shah Faisal Town’s Block 5 (Rs1.3m); bypass of sewerage system from a stormwater drain at 4/700 to 4/1360, (Rs0.75m) and provision of ring slabs in the KWSB’s Shah Faisal division (Rs0.4m).
SADDAR: Replacement of old and wornout trunk sewer by laying trunk sewer on Altaf Husain Road from Nishtar Road to I. I. Chundrigar Road (Rs9.4m); cleaning of Clifton trunk sewer and construction of intermediate manholes from Bath Island Park, Choudhry Rehmat Ali Road (Block-4) for improving sewerage system of Frere Town and Bath Islands’ blocks 3, 4, 5 and 7 (Rs4.1m).
SITE: Construction of roads from Qalandria Chowk to Nusrat Bhutto Colony in UC-9 (Rs 3m); construction of road from Pirabad police station to Mohammed Pur Islamia Colony, UC-8 (Rs3m); rehabilitation of concerned pipelines (Rs2.7m); construction of main Sherkhanabad Road, UCs 6 and 7 (Rs2.4m); rehabilitation of concerned water lines (Rs2.4m); provision of slab and reconstruction of damage manholes in UCs 1, 2, 3 and 4, Site Metroville (Rs1.7m); construction of main road Metroville, UC-4 (Rs2.5m) and sewerage scheme in UC-3.
