KARACHI, Sept 16: The additional district and sessions judge-II, South, Mohammad Azim, rejected the application submitted by civil rights campaigner Mohammad Iqbal Kazmi seeking legal action against the SHO of Defence police station on Saturday.

Mr Kazmi had pleaded for the registration of a case against the SHO for allegedly threatening his wife, Shazia alias Sadia Kazmi, and for taking her signatures at gunpoint.

The court summoned the SHO on Sept 5 and directed him to appear in court to clarify his position.

The SHO submitted an affidavit, stating that he had not taken signatures of the woman at gunpoint and she had willingly signed the FIR.

The court after hearing the arguments of both sides rejected Mr Kazmi’s application.

The complainant had earlier submitted an application on Aug 9 to the district and sessions judge, South, Zaheeruddin S. Leghari, stating that his wife and her cousin, Mohammad Imran Shehzad, were on their way to the Sindh High Court on Aug 1 in an auto-rickshaw when some unidentified men intercepted them near the Defence Central Library on the Sunset Boulevard.

The kidnappers tortured them with a sharp-edged weapon and later dropped them in the Seaview area. He said as the victims approached the Defence police station, the SHO refused to register a case.

The court summoned the SHO on Aug 11. He submitted a written explanation in his defence, stating that Shazia alias Sadia Kazmi and Imran Shehzad, son of Mohammad Islam, had come to the police station on Aug 1 and said they wanted to visit hospital for treatment.

The duty officer referred them to the Jinnah hospital with a police letter for medical examination and treatment. Since then, none of them visited the police station for lodging a report.

In their arguments, the couple said that the police statement was false, as the police officials had simply refused to register the case.
