MUZAFFARABAD, Sept 12: The AJK University will shortly advertise 124 vacant posts to make permanent appointments for 44 teaching and 80 non-teaching staff based on merit.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Z.U. Khan told reporters here on Wednesday that even the office of vice chancellor would be filled on open merit.

Mr Khan informed that the university had established a special fund to meet the educational expenditures of needy students.

Similarly, the institution decided to waive 50 per cent fees of children of junior grade employees, he said, adding that if employees were interested in improving their own qualifications, then the university would pay for their tuition and examination fees and 50 per cent cost of books.

The vice-chancellor said a centre of excellence would also be established at the university to facilitate the faculty exchange programme and career planning service.

About the $133 million King Abdullah University in Azad Jammu and Kashmir sponsored by the Saudi Arabian government, he said there was disagreement with the AJK government over the site selection for the project.

“We want the varsity to be built in Chattar Klas but the government suggested that it should be constructed at Kardala in the vicinity of Muzaffarabad airport,” he said.
