LAHORE, Sept 11: As the release of wheat by the food department has failed to impact the market, the wheat price in some upper parts of Punjab touched an unprecedented level of Rs600 per 40kg.

During the last week, the wheat price has gone up by 10 per cent; from Rs510 per 40kg to Rs600 in upper parts of the Punjab, from Rs495 to Rs530 in Lahore, from Rs510 to Rs570 in Karachi and Rs435 to Rs500 in Multan.

Paradoxically, the government releases, which started from Sept 7, have also failed to stabilize market. In the last three days, the official releases in Punjab have not gone beyond 86.46 per cent of total planned target.
