KARAK, Sept 11: The provincial general secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party-Sherpao, Sikandar Khan Sherpao, has claimed that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) got votes from people in the name of Islam but has failed miserably in implementing its manifesto.

Addressing a convention of party workers, he said the MMA government focused on the development of Bannu, the home district of the chief minister, at the expense of other districts.

He said Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani allocated Rs30 million for each of his ministers and MPAs, but set aside only Rs2.5 million for development work in the constituency of an opposition member.

Mr Sherpao said some people who did not even own bicycles before elections were now travelling in heavy-duty jeeps and luxury cars.

While assailing the Awami National Party (ANP), Mr Sherpao said its members frequently acknowledged the services Bacha Khan rendered for the Pakhtoon but the party failed to resolve the people’s problems in its two terms in government.

About the Pakistan-Afghanistan grand jirga in Kabul, he said it was the outcome of the sincere efforts of PPP-S and those who were claiming that the joint jirga would fail without the participation of the Taliban had been proven wrong as the militant organisation had agreed to hold talks with the Karzai government.

He said Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao would visit Karak soon and announce a ‘grand package’ for the development of the district.
