NEW DELHI, Sept 4: India’s foreign minister said on Tuesday that the country had sought help from Bangladesh to catch the perpetrators of a spate of bomb blasts, including explosions that killed 43 people in August.

New Delhi had handed over “some particulars ... about those who are indulging in all sorts of activities like insurgency and other terrorist activities” during a meeting of interior ministry officials in New Delhi on Aug 3, Pranab Mukherjee said.

“We seek their cooperation,” he added, referring to Bangladesh.

In May, 11 people were killed when a bomb tore through the Makkah Mosque in the southern city of Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh state.

Immediately after last month’s blasts, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh said “available information” pointed to “the involvement of international terrorist organisations in Bangladesh and Pakistan.” Local authorities named the Bangladesh-based group, the Harkatul Jihad Al-Islami, for the attacks.—AFP
