ISLAMABAD, Aug 31: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Islamabad chapter, has started making preparations for the reception of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif at Islamabad Airport on September 10 and constituted five committees for this purpose.
Speaking at a news conference here on Friday, the PML-N Islamabad president, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, said the party was in contact with the other parties in the recently-formed Alliance for the Restoration of Democratic Movement (APDM) to finalise the plan to accord a historic welcome to the Sharif brothers when they would arrive in the country ending their seven-year exile.
PML-N Women Wing President in Islamabad Nuzhat Amir was also present on the occasion.
Dr Chaudhry said the party was expecting that a crowd of one million people would receive the Sharifs at Islamabad Airport. “We will drape whole Islamabad with banners, party flags and pictures of Nawaz Sharif,” he said.
The PML-N office-bearer said the rulers could not stop the Sharif brothers from returning to the country after the historic decision of the Supreme Court.
He said if the rulers tried to create hurdles in the arrival of the exiled PML-N leaders then it would be considered a direct confrontation with the judiciary.
Dr Tariq said the party was also in contact with lawyers’ bodies and human rights organisations. He disclosed that the Sharifs had booked their seats in more than one airline.— Staff Reporter
