HYDERABAD, Aug 28: Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Mr Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, is dissatisfied with the pace of investigation into the kidnapping of a three-day old baby girl, Dua, from Bhitai Hospital in Latifabad on Aug 19 and directed the provincial police officer (PPO) Sindh to supervise it personally, sources in police department disclose on Tuesday.
A day after receiving the apex court’s directives, PPO Ziaul Hassan chaired meeting in Karachi on Tuesday which was attended by RPO S.S.Babar Khattak, Hyderabad DIG Shaukat Shah, DPO Imran Shaukat, Latifabad SPO Ayub Durrani, Qasimabad SPO Taj Mohammad Noonari, supervising investigating officer of Hussainabad, investigating officer and SHO Hussainabad police station.
The case about the baby’s kidnapping had been lodged at Hussainabad police station on the complaint of her father, Nadeem Yusufzai alias Bhoora. Hussainabad investigation wing police have arrested Nasir and Sharif in the case and their remand would expire on Wednesday.
They would be produced before the civil judge and judicial magistrate-X. Police had also got the sketch of unidentified woman prepared, who was believed to have taken away the baby from the hospital.
The sketch was prepared with the help of an elderly woman Waheedan, who was also staying in the hospital’s same ward along with her daughter, Bano Parveen.
The suspected woman was present in the same ward and when Nadeem’s wife Feroze objected to her presence at that time, Ms.Waheedan had claimed that she knew her. However, she retracted her statement after the baby was kidnapped.
The PPO was briefed about the progress on the case and was told that a committee headed by DIG was working on the case and looking into different possibilities.
The PPO expressed concern over delay in recovery of the baby given the fact that the apex court had taken its notice. He was told that what was being done by police was not being properly reflected by lower staff in the daily progress reports that were being sent to the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the Chief Justice of Pakistan had directed the sessions judge of Hyderabad to look into the case and obtain daily progress report from Hussainabad police about the baby’s recovery. But, when he saw reports submitted to him he expressed dissatisfaction and sent the directives to PPO Sindh on Monday evening.
SHC NOTICES: The Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday issued notices to Matiari district nazim, his father Zulfikar Shah, SHO of police station, Jiandal Shah, and a private respondent Gul Hassan Sand to appear in court on Aug 31 on a miscellaneous application filed by Pir Ghulam Mujaddid Sarhandi.
Mr Mujaddid is also a respondent in the main criminal miscellaneous application filed by district nazim and others.
