KARACHI: Raksha Bandhan celebrated

Published August 29, 2007

KARACHI, Aug 28: Members of the Hindu community in the city, like everywhere else around the globe, celebrated their annual festival of Raksha Bandhan on Tuesday. The festival is celebrated to mark the bond of love between sisters and brothers. Sisters, as a mark of devotion to their brothers, tie a thread called Rakhi around the wrist of their brothers. The brothers, in return, vow to protect them.

Raksha literally means protection and Bandhan means a tie or a bond. Hence Raksha Bandhan means a tie or bond of protection.—Staff Reporter
