KARACHI, Aug 27: The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) on Monday reached an out-of-court settlement with a private trust and ‘purchased’ a nationalised school. Owners of the school had moved the Sindh High Court for its denationalisation, a senior official told Dawn.

“We have purchased the New Era School located in Khudadad Colony for Rs4 million from the owners,” Ms Fakhar Karim, EDO Education of the city government, said.

The premises, located at the prime location near the Quaid’s Mausoleum, houses three schools — two primary and one secondary — that had been nationalised during the Z.A. Bhutto’s government.

Ms Karim said she approached the city nazim and the DCO in this regard and it was agreed that the proposed deal was in the interest of more than 750 students.

“This is for the first time in the history of the city that the local government has purchased any school,” she stated.
