KARACHI, March 13: The Joint Action Committee of Pakistan Steel Employees held a meeting with Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro in which matters relating to Pakistan Steel came under discussion.

During the meeting, a high-powered committee, headed by Iqbal Malik, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Production and Member Board of Directors Pakistan Steel, was formed.

The committee will prepare its report on the subject issues within four weeks, including 15 points of the action committee and later decisions will be taken accordingly.

As an initial step, all retrenchments in the PS were stopped and it was decided that a review committee would be set up in this regard.

Another committee, headed by director finance, will take a decision regarding enhancement in the wages of steel mill employees while pay scales of officers will be implemented after approval from the ministry of finance.

As regards referendum in Pakistan Steel, it was decided that the holding of elections would be ensured at the earliest.

The problems of women teachers also came under discussion and it was decided that the same be sorted out immediately.

It was also decided that inquiries and charge-sheets would be withdrawn and no action of victimisation would be taken.

The members of the action committee thanked the Governor of Sindh, production Secretary, Sindh chief secretary, Nazim Naimatullah Khan, IG Syed Kamal Shah and other officers and assured to maintain production and industrial peace.—APP
