KARACHI, Aug 23: The Karachi Bar Association and the PML-N Lawyers’ Wing have welcomed the Supreme Court ruling about the Sharif brother’s return to the country, and hoped that it would prove a good omen for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan.
KBA General-Secretary Naeem Qureshi, in his message to the PML-N leadership, said the ruling would help democratic forces protect and strengthen democracy in the country.
Meanwhile, the PML-N Lawyers’ Wing met here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Arshad Khan Jadoon and expressed its pleasure over the SC verdict. The meeting noted that the ruling proved that Gen Pervez Musharraf had grabbed power illegally and toppled the elected government of Mian Nawaz Sharif in violation of the Constitution.
“It’s the victory of 160 million Pakistanis which will cast a positive impact on the overall political situation in the country,” the chair observed.
The meeting reiterated the stand that there was no room for military dictators in national politics, and asked Gen Musharraf, his associates and the armed forces to go back to the barracks.
Later, members of the lawyers’ wing, including Arshad Jadoon, Khalil-ur-Rehman Abbasi, Karim Riaz Siddiqui, Ghulam Mustafa, Shoaib Mirza, Ashraf Menhaj and Ashfaq Rafiq Janjua visited Karachi Press Club as a goodwill gesture.
