MARDAN, Aug 22: The Citizen Action Committee (CAC) Mardan in collaboration with the Swabi Samaji Behbood Council (SBRC) will launch a campaign against women trafficking in the district.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Aurat Foundation coordinator Sakhawat Shah said the trafficking of women was on the rise in the district. He warned that if left unchecked, the trade could become a threat to the Pakhtun culture and tradition.
He said that the people involved in the illegal business were deceiving poor parents, mostly from rural areas, in the name of providing a bright future to their young and teenaged girls but later sold them in Punjab.
He alleged that the CAC had provided a list of 16 brokers involved in the heinous crime to the district police officer but no action was taken against them. He appealed to the authorities concerned to take action over a resolution passed by the district council.
