KARACHI, Aug 22: Freezing of funds by the Sindh Local Government Commission has crippled the Gulshan Town’s Union Council-12 which has failed to complete its ongoing uplift projects.
Dr Mohammad Sultan Shaikh, nazim of the UC, told PPI that owing to the unfavourable attitude of the Sindh Local Government Department, the city nazim and the Gulshan Town nazim towards his UC, not only the UC was unable to run its affairs smoothly but the residents of the area were also suffering.
He said he was among the seven councillors from the Al-Khidmat Group elected from the UC. Among others, four were from the Haq Parast Group.
Dr Shaikh claimed that the location of his UC office, Sohrab Goth, was the bone of contention. He said the Haq Parast Group wanted the office to be shifted which he did not agree.
He recalled that a boundary wall around the office had been raised to allay the fears expressed by the HPG. However, it was demolished during the course of its construction. Since then, he added, the Haq Parast Group was bent upon shifting his office. The group got the UC-12 funds frozen through an application, he deplored.
