KARACHI, Aug 18: Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation director Dr Adibul Hasan Rizvi has made out a strong case for the immediate promulgation of the ordinance seeking to check trafficking in organs.
Dr Rizvi, who is also president-elect of the Transplant Society of Pakistan, told a press conference on Saturday that he would appeal to President Gen Pervez Musharraf to promulgate the ordinance without delay.
He criticised the government for introducing the organs trade bill in the National Assembly hours before the speaker prorogued the house after a 19-day session. Dr Rizvi said organ-trafficking in Pakistan was so rampant that the country had earned the dubious distinction of being an “organs bazaar.”
