According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended July 28, 2007, deposits and other accounts of the scheduled banks stood at Rs3,383.373 billion, higher by Rs7.554 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs3,375.819 billion. Rs3,370.761 billion, against preceding week’s Rs3,363.232 billion.

Specialised banks deposits stood at Rs12.612 billion, against preceding week’s Rs12.587 billion, a rise of Rs0.025 billion.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks increased during the week over preceding week’s figure. It rose to Rs420.608 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs418.652 billion, a rise of Rs1.956 billion. This was primarily due to a rise in the borrowings by commercial banks, which rose to Rs339.224 billion against previous week’s Rs337.350 billion, or by Rs1.874 billion. Borrowings by specialized banks stood at Rs81.383 billion, against preceding week’s figure of Rs81.302 billion, a rise of Rs0.081 billion.

Gross advances stood at Rs2,429.398 billion in the week under review, a decline of Rs1.535 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs2,430.933 billion. Advances by commercial banks declined to Rs2,334.299 billion against earlier week’s figure of Rs2,335.957 billion, or by Rs1.658 billion. Advances of specialized banks stood at Rs95.099 billion, higher by Rs0.122 billion over earlier week’s figure of Rs94.977 billion.

Investments of all scheduled banks increased in the week by Rs1.134 billion to Rs1,167.897 billion against preceding week’s figure of Rs1,166.763 billion. Commercial banks investment rose to Rs1,156.799 billion, from earlier week’s Rs1,155.550 billion, larger by Rs1.249 billion. Specialised banks investment stood at Rs11.098 billion, against preceding week’s Rs11.213 billion, a decline by Rs0.115 billion.

Cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks declined by Rs1.756 billion during the week to stand at Rs353.082 billion against earlier week’s Rs354.838 billion. The figure for commercial banks stood at Rs350.679 billion against preceding week’s figure of Rs352.264 billion, a fall of Rs1.585 billion.

Total assets of scheduled banks stood at Rs4,542.508 billion, higher by Rs17.343 billion, over preceding week’s figure of Rs4,525.165 billion. Meanwhile, commercial banks assets stood at Rs4,426.791 billion, larger by Rs17.335 billion over previous week’s figure of Rs4,409.456 billion. Specialised banks assets rose to Rs115.717 billion, or by Rs0.008 billion over previous week’s Rs115.709 billion.
