KARACHI, March 11: The second moot of reproductive health educators, held at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan, concluded here on Monday focussing on strengthening implementation of reproductive health activities for improving the health of women and children in the country.

The moot, inaugurated by Prof S. M. Rab, is aimed at discussing strategies for ensuring that the RH programme, as envisaged by the CPSP, is effectively put into operation.

During the moot, three working groups dealt with different aspects of the subject. Group-I discussed possible ways to include the core into the ongoing curriculum for medical students.

Group-II deliberated on how some important aspects of the subject can be incorporated in the programme devised for post- graduate medical trainees.

Group-III discussed the possibilities of updating knowledge of medical practitioners about new concepts in management of RH and spreading the message of preventive care.

Speaking at concluding session of the moot, CPSP President Dr. Sultan Farooqui said that the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan is establishing a distant-learning programme with the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, U.K.

He disclosed that another major development on the CPSP agenda is recognition of the fellowship in a number of countries, including Saudi Arabia.

The CPSP has already established two examination centres at Riyadh and Jeddah, where first CPSP examinations would commence from July. Similar centres are envisaged to be set up during the current year in Kuwait and UAE. Dr. Farooqui said the centres located in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan and Peshawar would be fully-equipped, especially for access to Internet.
