KARACHI: 11 cars, 12 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, March 11: At least 23 vehicles — 11 cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen on Monday.

Police said bandits hijacked five cars and stole six other vehicles in various localities.

Four motorbikes were hijacked and eight were stolen. The police claimed that they recovered a stolen car (AAD-995) and two motorbikes (KCX-2051, HDJ-6649).

DROWNED: An eight-year-old girl drowned in an underground water-tank in North Nazimabad on Monday.

Police said Fasiha Azeem fell into an underground water-tank while playing at her shanty town home in North Nazimabad. She was taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced her dead and the family took away the body without conducting an autopsy.

ACCIDENT: A driver of a security agency died after his van collided with an electricity pole in Ferozabad.

The victim, identified as Ejaz Aslam, suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot, police said.

ROBBERS HELD: Police claimed that they foiled a robbery attempt in Buffer Zone and arrested two alleged robbers following an encounter.

Three robbers entered the house of Minhas in Buffer Zone Sector 15-B, and looted the inmates. As the bandits were trying to escape with the loot, the police reached on the spot and an encounter took place in which constable Raja Tanveer suffered a bullet wound.

The police arrested Amir Shahzad and Shakir and recovered a TT pistol along with the booty.

BOYS HELP POLICE: Schoolboys helped police to arrest two bandits in North Nazimabad Town by stoning and intercepting them, adds PPI.

At noon three bandits entered the late Abdul Waheed’s home and held Mrs Raisa at gunpoint. A fruit seller, Yousuf Bengali, saw the bandits entering the house and informed students returning from their school. Boys begun stoning the bandits and soon they came out of the house. The bandits were confused. In the meantime, a police patrolling party arrived at the scene.

The bandits opened fire on the police party injuring constable Raja Tanveer. Police returned the fire and exchange of fire took place. Hearing gunshots another police party arrived at the scene and police arrested the two bandits with the looted property and their arms.
