In Johi flood victims and activists of People’s Party Parliamentarians, PPP-SB, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Sindh National Party and Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz took part in a rally demanding relief goods for the flood victims.
Ghulam Nabi Bahoto, Mehboob Babar and Zulfiqar Jamali who led the rally accused local revenue officers, an MPA and taluka nazim of giving away relief goods to the undeserving people. More than 100,000 people who were affected in Johi from the floods were still waiting for relief, they said.
They said that the displaced people were still not provided tents and they were compelled to live under open sky while the influential people were selling relief goods at shops. Later, 100 activists observed token hunger strike.
In Mehar flood victims from Khan Jo Goth, Kando Wah, Qadir Bux Machhi, Maro-Jo-Thullah, Choli Deepar, Girkan, Seelra, Ghari, Saeedpur, Faridabad, and Mangwani villages staged a demonstration on the Indus Highway near the town.
Ms Sardaran Deero, Ms Maryam Solangi, Ms Haneefan Solangi, Ms Zohran Chandio and Ms Fatima Machhi who led the protest charged the officials with giving away relief goods among influential people.
Hundreds of poor people were till this day facing shortage of food, clean water and medicines and they were beaten up when they raised voice in protest, they said adding that police had thrashed seven women when they protested against unfair distribution of relief goods on Saturday.
PPP leaders Qazi Shafique Ahmed Mahessar, Mehmood Mahessar and Ghulam Dastagir Gorar said that more than 50,000 people in Mehar taluka were facing shortage of food and appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to direct the administration to distribute relief goods judiciously.
SUSPENDED: The Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi on Sunday suspended chief engineer water of Wapda (south), Huzoor Bux Memon, on charges of negligence during floods.
The minister issued the order on his visit to some flood affected areas of Johi, Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas where he distributed relief goods among 700 families.
