LAHORE, Oct 20: The Lahore High Court on Friday awarded death penalty in a double-murder case to a man, who was sentenced to seven years jail only by a sessions court for being an ‘honour killer’.
“The plea of sudden and grave provocation under the Islamic injunctions will be available to an accused only if the deceased victim was committing an act punishable with death under the Islamic law”, a LHC bench, comprising Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani and Justice Raja Muhammad Sabir, observed in its detailed judgment.
In the instant case, it pointed out, there was nothing on record to indicate that Hafizan Bibi and Abid Hussain, both in their teens, were found in a compromising position. They had been fully dressed, their bodies lay apart and there was no medical evidence to show that they had indulged in sexual intercourse, it added.
