KARACHI, March 10: The Sindh police have been put on high alert to ensure peace during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram. Leaves of policemen have been cancelled.
IG Syed Kamal Shah announced this here on Sunday while presiding over a meeting to review security arrangements in the province during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
He said the Sindh police would ensure security of life and property to the people and they were fully prepared to maintain peace. Police commandos and special squads would be posted in all sensitive areas of the province to guard against terrorist activities, and senior officials concerned would visit sensitive areas in helicopters if needed.
“Hidden cameras will also be installed at important places, such as bus stands, railway stations, airports, markets, shopping centres. A Central Control Room has been set up at the Central Police Office to monitor the situation,” he added.
He said police had conducted detailed surveys of the routes of processions. He instructed police officials to form peace committees consisting of Ulema, social workers and elected representatives in their areas to ensure harmony.
He sought cooperation from religious scholars for maintaining peace and tranquillity. — PPI
