They cut a cake at a ceremony held on the premises of the high court. They garlanded and congratulated each other on the success of their movement.
Speaking on the occasion, their representatives, including PHC Bar Association’s former secretary-general Mussarat Hillali and former vice-president S. Naz Mohammadzai, said they had participated in the movement launched by lawyers across the country not for the sake of an individual, but for saving the institution of judiciary.
“The unity among the lawyers’ community paved the way for their victory against the military ruler and in future no autocrat would try to influence the judiciary,” said Ms Hillali. She said millions of people, who had come out on roads in support of the chief justice, had proved that the masses wanted supremacy of the Constitution and independence of the judiciary.
Ms Mohammadzai said the lawyers’ movement had not ended with the restoration of the chief justice and they would continue their struggle against any unconstitutional and illegal step taken by the government.
