PESHAWAR, Aug 1: The Pak-Afghan jirga will help devise a strategy for restoration of regional peace, according to the provincial general secretary Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) MPA Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao.

He was addressing a public meeting at Shodag in Qamar Khanai union council in Charsadda district.

Hoping that the jirga would play a vital role for the betterment of the region, Sikandar Sherpao said that restoration of peace in both Pakistan and Afghanistan was essential for the prosperity of the peoples of the two countries.

Expressing full confidence over the skills of Pakistani troops, he said that they were capable of combating the threat of terrorism.

Criticising the provocative statements of US officials, he said that such statements had the potential to mar the cordial ties between the two countries. Pakistani forces, he said, were capable of tackling terrorism and such statements would jeopardize the global alliance for the war on terror.

He said that the PPP-S had devised a comprehensive programme for the Pukhtuns’ rights, adding that it would help overcome their problems. He said that some elements, who had not done anything practical for the Pukhtuns, were trying to deceive them through rhetoric.

Criticising the MMA, he said that the alliance had failed to fulfil its electoral promises and termed the MMA’s silence over the wave of suicide bombings criminal.

According to him, the MMA government’s silence proved that it was trying to hide its wrongdoings and said that people would reject it in the elections because of its hypocritical attitude.Earlier, MPA Alamzab Umarzai, PPP-S district president Maj (retd) Tariq Bacha and party leaders Faqir Hussian Khan also addressed the gathering.—APP
