KARACHI, July 23: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday said that coach Geoff Lawson would not be impeded by the board in choosing his support staff and implementing policies, in the best interest of the Pakistan team.

“Certainly, Lawson will have a big role in selection of the team’s new support staff including trainer, physiotherapist and perhaps batting and bowling coaches,” the PCB Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf said.

Dr Nasim rejected the impression that the board had already decided to assign former Test players Haroon Rasheed and Aaqib Javed as batting and bowling coaches respectively.

“All the decisions about forming the coaching team will be taken after consultations with Lawson following his arrival next month,” he added.

The PCB chief, however, did not elaborate on extent of the role Lawson will have in the team’s selection and if he would be involved in finalising the squad for the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship.—Agencies
