KARACHI, July 8: France has sent relief goods for the people affected by rains and floods in Sindh and Balochistan, according to a statement issued by the Pakistan Customs’ media cell here on Sunday.

The statement said that a plane carrying the relief goods landed in Karachi on Saturday. French Consul General in Karachi Pierre Seillan was at the airport to receive the shipment, it added.

The relief goods, worth over Rs20 million, include 15 medicines for about 12,000 patients packed in emergency medical kits, 45,000 water purification tablets and three water treatment plants.

The composition of the consignment was based on the requirements conveyed by the Pakistani authorities. The French government accordingly decided to focus on safe water and medicines.

Al Khidmat Society

The Al-Khidmat Society has sent eight truckloads of relief goods to Gadap and Bin Qasim towns for distribution among the families affected by the recent thunderstorm, rains and flooding.

The relief goods include food grain, flour, pulses, dry milk, tea, oil, ghee and other items of daily use sufficient for 200 families. Besides, material to build 925 shelters has been sent through the consignment.

The consumer commodities would be distributed in Memon Goth, Darsano Chhano, Khair Mohammad Khaskheli, Jumma Jokhio, Karo Khaskheli and Ali Mohammad villages and other affected areas.

The shelter material will be provided to the 475 families who have lost their houses in Nek Mohammad Goth, Haji Zaman Goth, Kathor Goth, Angara Goth and Konkar Goth.

The relief goods, worth about Rs10 million, would be distributed under the supervision of MNA Mohammad Hussain Mehanti of the MMA, said a press release.

Benazir’s directive

The Pakistan People’s Party, Sindh, acting upon the directive of its Chairperson Benazir Bhutto, has sent more consignments of relief goods to the rain and flood-affected areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

A convoy of trucks carrying food, mineral water, dry milk, tents and medicines left the People’s Secretariat here for different destinations in Sindh and Balochistan. Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Rashid Rabbani, Rafique Engineer, Mirza Maqbool, Raja Razaq, Afaq Shahid, Qasim Baloch, Fareed Ansari and others were present on the occasion.—PPI
