Sindh Sugar Corporation disbanded

KARACHI, March 6: Sindh Sugar Corporation has been disbanded and the staff working at Dadu and Thatta Sugar Mills besides 10 officers working at SSC’s Head Office have been relieved from services under a package.

The decision to wind up the corporation was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Provincial Industries Minister, Dewan Mohammed Yousuf Farooqui here on Wednesday.

Among 151 officers affected by this decision include 89 officers of Dadu Sugar Mills and 52 of Thatta Sugar Mills.

The meeting decided to pay a total package of Rs40 million to the officials after privatization of two mills.

Dadu Sugar Mills was closed in April 1999 while Thatta Sugar Mill is shut since December 1999.

Dewan Yousuf Farooqui directed the Industries Department to ensure that no injustice is done with any employee while settling down their dues.

Dewan said that the two mills will be handed over to Provincial Privatization Committee by March 31, 2002.

He hoped that the two mills will be privatized at the earliest through speedy process so that the employees spared are paid their dues accordingly.

The two mills were closed following huge losses suffered in their operation.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Industries, Raja Mohammed Abbas and other officials concerned.—APP
