GUJRANWALA, Oct 20: People from various walks of life have strongly protested against Nepra decision to allow Wapda to enhance electricity tariff.

Speaking at a meeting on Saturday the members of Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, traders, manufacturers and people from other walks of life demanded that the increase should be taken back immediately.

They apprehended that the price of everything would go up with the hike in the electricity tariff.

They said that if the decision was not withdrawn immediately, they would initiate a protest campaign against hike in power tariff.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Increase in electricity tariff will further burden the industries, specially the powerloom factories, which were already facing crisis.

This was stated by Chuttiana Union Council Nazim Chaudhry Naeem Fateh here on Saturday.

He said that the diesel prices were going down in the international market but Wapda was increasing the electricity tariff.

Former federal minister and PML-N leader Chaudhry Asadur Rahman said that the increase in electricity tariff would create problems for the cultivators who use electricity for running tube-wells to irrigate their lands.

Former MPA Mian Muhammad Rafiq said that when the people were using less electricity owing to its high prices, the government was further increasing the rates which would result in less use of power.
