PESHAWAR, June 20: With the inauguration of the newly-built flyover at the Shershah Soori Intersection only days away, sceptical traffic police officials say it would do nothing to ease traffic jams.

Despite the widening of approach roads and installation of signals, traffic coming towards the G.T. Road has to be blocked on the Khyber Road during peak hours.

During rush hours, traffic signals are switched off at the intersection, blocking one lane of the Khyber Road, causing hardships to road users. “Traffic police are not satisfied with the project. The flyover will hardly resolve 20 per cent of the traffic problem,” said a police official.

He said irregular electricity supply was a major problem that renders traffic signals ineffective. The flyover, named after the slain City Police Chief, Malik Mohammad Saad, spans between the Hospital Gate and the Shabistan Cinema and would be inaugurated on June 27.
